Round up of Club Champs Finals Weekend!

Hi everyone,

Wow, what a finals weekend we’ve just had! Please see the attached posters below for results and photos from the two tennis-filled days. We had tennis, we had Pimms, we had sunshine, and we had a whole lot of fun.

Where do I start?

The Players - we had 216 entries, over the 18 events- including the introduction of two new events this year- the o60’s ‘Super Vets’ Men’s Singles and the o60’s Ladies’ Singles. The matches on the run up to finals weekend were all fantastic to watch and thank you to all the players who played their matches on time. Honourable mention to the Pic’ N’ Mix match who had 5 weeks to play ONE match, and left it until 6pm last Friday to play, that really helped my nerves, thanks all!

The level of play this year on Finals Weekend was super competitive; including 3 championship tie-breaks, 2 set tie-breaks and a 3rd set for the Men’s Single’s Final. Well done to both Fin and Joe for putting on an incredibly competitive and entertaining match.

A special shoutout to the Pic’ N’ Mix final, which wins longest match of the weekend at a whopping 2 hours 26 minutes. The champions won the first set in a set tie-break, then came back from 5 2 down in the second set, saved 3 set points, to the win the second set 7 5.

Another special mention to the o60’s Ladies doubles match which was another 2+ hour battle and went to 16-14 in the championship tie- break! Well played ladies!

Supporters – The balcony was packed all weekend with friends and family cheering on the players, creating a fantastic atmosphere. It was encouraging to see so many people enjoying the sunshine, sharing a drink and a cob, and enthusiastically supporting all of the finalists throughout the weekend.

And now for the important thank you’s.

Ball kids and line judges - thank you to all the kids and grown-ups who volunteered to help for the single’s matches on both days.

A special mention to Ball Kid of the Year- Louie Stringfellow- who took the force of at least 3 of the men’s serves. He brushed it off like a true champ, well done Louie.

Umpires - Katie Eaton and Chris Teuwen- thank you for sitting out in the heat for both the singles and doubles matches, keeping us all up to date on the scores.

Josh, Luke and the bar staff- thank you for all the hard work on the run up to and over the weekend, keeping the players and the supporters well hydrated and fed.

Reception team- thank you to Grace, Tracy, Laura and Pete who I annoyed endlessly for printing, laminating and guillotining.

IT - a special thank you to Jack Goodby for keeping everyone at home up to date on the scores via https://ace-face.co.uk/ which you can still use today to check the scores from the weekend.

Draws - Thanks to Grant Chapman for once again organising the 18 draws.

Photographer - thanks to Alice Goodby for being our official photographer for the weekend (and unofficial babysitter!) You can find all the official photos here:

A huge thank you to Amie and Annabel who were with me early both mornings helping me to set up. Amie also put in a lot of hours on the run up to the weekend with promotion and content on our social media pages- don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see more of the action from the weekend.

A special thank you to Andy Eaton who helped with the Veteran's Tournament, and gave me endless support.

Sponsors -

A huge heartfelt thank you to all of our sponsors. Their generous support made it possible for me to run this event, and I am incredibly grateful for their contributions.

Finally, a sincere thank you to all of the members who took the time to come and speak to me over the weekend or sent me a message with such kind and generous words of praise and support. Hearing how much you enjoyed the weekend made all the hard work and effort feel worthwhile.

Emma Franks
